At Baja Designs our products are not only for performance, but also safety. While an effective forward-projecting lighting package is so you can see where you’re going, chase lights allow others to see you. Adding a chase light allows for visibility in the rear when encountering dust or harsh conditions so your vehicle can be easily seen by groups behind you. The chase light often gets overlooked as the last piece to the puzzle for most lighting packages, however, a chase light should be one of the first light modifications you should consider when building an effective lighting package for your offroad vehicle.

The Best Lens Pattern for a Chase Light?

To not blind the drivers behind you, it is essential to diffuse the light emitting from your chase light as much as possible. This makes it easier for drivers to spot your position on the trail. Our S2 Sport Universal Chase Light Kit comes standard with our Work/Scene lens pattern in Baja Amber. This allows for an extremely smooth light near the vehicle, offering a “marker” type light without disturbing the driving abilities of other drivers on the trail.  Enthusiasts can also use our wide cornering lens pattern in baja amber, which will act to illuminate behind your vehicle, much the same as a reverse light.

The Best Lens Color for a Chase Light?

For optimal performance in dust, snow, or fog, our baja amber is the preferred lens color of choice. While red, green, or blue lenses can be used, they are generally used for race applications only. Amber light is universally recognized as a caution light, making our Baja Amber lenses a great option for your chase light. Baja amber effectively cuts through dust and inclement weather, improving visibility in challenging conditions.

Changing Lens Patterns is as easy as uService

With Baja Designs uService Technology, your chase light doesn’t have to stay a chase light forever. You can easily swap the lens pattern or color (with the exception of the RTL), allowing you to reposition the light anywhere on your vehicle without needing to purchase a new one. Plus, if you already have a forward-facing Baja Designs light, you can simply buy the appropriate lens and convert it into a chase light.

RTL – Rear Tail Light

Born out of necessity, the RTL is a race bred chase light built for the rigors of racing Baja where dust can blind vehicles. Being the “Scientists of Lighting”, we set out to create a chase light bar that would be brighter and safer for off-road racers, thus our Rear Tail Light, or RTL was born. The Baja Designs RTL Chase Light has been must-have for any serious off-road racer since its introduction, offering unmatched safety, visibility, and functionality in challenging conditions such as Baja. Designed specifically for rugged terrain, the RTL Chase Light bar provides powerful rear lighting that enhances visibility through dust, fog, and darkness—critical for maintaining safe distances during high-speed desert runs or trail rides. With integrated features like brake lights, turn signals, and running lights, this Baja Designs chase light ensures you’re not only seen but clearly understood on the trail. Whether you’re racing or recreationally exploring, the durability and performance of a Baja Designs RTL make it an essential upgrade for any off-road vehicle.

The RTL series of rear LED light bars has many uses on a vehicle. These bars can function as off-road brake lights, running lights, cargo lights, or license plate lights. The original RTL light bar is a 30-inch long fixture with several practical variations. With the various options to meet race-legal rear taillight requirements in the RTL-B and RTL-G ensuring visibility on the racecourse, you can confidently take the lead knowing that you’re easily visible to others. This all-inclusive kit comprises the selected RTL bar and mounting hardware for simple installation, ensuring your setup is trail-ready. The benefits of an RTL include Enhanced Safety – providing improved visibility in dusty and foggy conditions – and Durability – crafted to endure the challenges of off-road driving.

It comes down to one word – Safety

If you’re looking for a simple, compact chase light setup, the S2 Sport Universal Chase Light Kit will provide an extra layer of safety without breaking the bank. The Squadron light, though slightly more expensive, offers great versatility in various applications and mounting positions. Its increased intensity and power enable it to serve as a chase, cargo, and scene light all in one.

The RTL is our premium option, offering additional features like brake, reverse, and chase functions, unlike the basic on/off function of traditional auxiliary lights. No matter which setup you choose, one thing is certain: safety comes first when off-roading, and regardless of your budget, we have a trusted solution for you.
